All traffic laws plus additional Samford regulations will be enforced on campus.
It is the responsibility of the student, employee, or contractor to read, understand and obey Samford University's parking and traffic policies. University employees are expected to set the example and abide by the university parking and traffic regulations.
Standard rules of the road from the city, county, and state, as well as directive signs and instruction by Transportation Services employees and Public Safety officers, will be observed on campus at all times.
Automobiles
Speed Limit 25 MPH
The speed limit on campus is 25 miles per hour; however, any speed not safe for the conditions of the road, including vehicle/pedestrian congestion and during inclement weather, will be enforced.
All motor vehicles, including motorcycles and scooters, operated on campus, must have a current state license plate and be registered with the Transportation Services.
Valid License Required
All motor vehicle operators must have in their possession a valid operator’s license (driver's license), proof of vehicle insurance, and be ready to produce these items when requested by a Transportation Services employee or Public Safety officer.
No Passing
No passing of vehicles, including the SamTram shuttles, will be enforced at all times on campus.
Bicycles & Scooters
Bicycles and scooters must yield to pedestrians in all designated crosswalks. Pedestrians always have the right-of-way. Motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, stand up scooters and other vehicles are only allowed to operate on streets and roadways and are subject to all traffic rules and regulations. Bicycles and scooters should move in the same direction on the same side of the street as other vehicles.
Bicycles and scooters are not allowed to operate on sidewalks or lawns. Sidewalks are for pedestrian traffic only.
Bicycles and scooters are subject to citations and may be impounded by Transportation Services employees and/or Public Safety officers if operated, parked and/or secured in an inappropriate manner or location. Abandoned or inoperable bicycles and scooters will be removed with bolt cutters or other tools resulting in possible damage to the locking device. Any damage to the owner's lock, chain or other device used to secure a bicycle/scooter will not be assumed by the university.
Thirty days after the completion of each semester, all abandoned and/or impounded bicycles and scooters may be sold, donated or used for official university business. The owner of the bicycle/scooter is required to notify Transportation Services at 205-726-4146 to prevent the bicycle or scooter from being properly disposed of.
The university assumes no responsibility for the loss, damage, theft, care or protection of any bicycle or scooter on campus. The owners of these devices assume all risk, loss, or damage.

Motorcycles
All motorcycles operated on Samford University campus must have a current state license plate and be registered with Transportation Services. To obtain a motorcycle parking permit, please contact Transportation Services at 205-726-4146 for specific instructions.
Failure to register may result in the motorcycle being booted and/or towed at the owner’s expense. Motorcycles are to obey all parking and traffic rules, the same as a regular vehicle, and must remain in their designated color zone during enforcement hours. Motorists must yield to pedestrians. Pedestrians always have the right-of-way. Motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, and other vehicles are subject to all traffic rules and regulations and should move in the same direction on the same side of the road as other vehicles. These types of vehicles may not be operated on sidewalks or lawns. Sidewalks are for pedestrian traffic only.
