Displaying Your Permit

Parking permits must always be displayed properly and affixed by the adhesive on the permit to the inside front windshield, driver's side lower left corner.  Parking permits may not be affixed with tape or any other temporary means. Parking permits placed on the dashboard are not considered valid. No more than one permit shall be affixed to any vehicle. Please remove all expired parking permits. Providing false information concerning the registration of a vehicle will subject the violator to disciplinary action.

Non-drivers

All students are required to register their driving status in Banner, regardless of their possession or operation of a vehicle on campus. If a student is a non-driver, he or she is required to submit their status as a non-driver. To register this status online:

  1. Log in to the Samford portal.
  2. Select the Banner tab.
  3. From the main menu in Banner, select the Transportation menu.
  4. Select the non-driver status.

A non-driver is identified as a current student, enrolled in classes, who is not in possession of a vehicle on campus and does not drive a vehicle to campus. This includes borrowing and sharing vehicles. If a student is borrowing or sharing a vehicle with another person, he/she is not considered a non-driver.

Loaning vehicles is not encouraged. Vehicles violating the parking rules will be issued a citation. The owner of the vehicle, not the driver, will be solely responsible for the citation.

Handicap Parking Permits

Permits will be issued to students, employees and contractors who are certified for accessible parking by the State of Alabama, or by the state in which the accessible needs individual resides. Individuals must bring their state-issued accessible documentation (including placard and receipt) to the Transportation Services office to obtain a university accessible permit.

Failure to obtain a Samford University ADA Accessible Parking Permit may result in a non-appealable citation being issued for failure to register.

Handicap accessible parking spaces are available throughout campus. Regulations are mandated by the city of Homewood and the state of Alabama; they are not at the discretion of any department on campus to be voided at any time.

If all handicap accessible parking spaces are occupied, individuals may legally park in any parking space on campus, other than fire lanes, campus police reserved spaces and service zones. The valid Samford University accessible parking permit and the state issued placard/tag must be displayed at all times.

For instances where mobility issues are present, students should contact Transportation Services, 205-726-4146, Monday–Friday between 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., for transport on campus. During after-hours and on weekends, please call Public Safety at 205-726-2020.

Where a longer-term mobility impairment exists, students should submit an Accommodation Request Form to the Office of Accessibility and Accommodations to review their eligibility for a temporary limited mobility parking permit and assistance with specific accommodations in the classroom and/or housing. Permits issued through OAA authorize "out of zone" parking only. They do not give access to ADA-mandated accessible spots.

The person who owns the handicap placard or license plate is the only one who is legally allowed to use it.  Individuals using a handicap placard or license plate that is issued to someone else constitute fraud and is punishable by state law and will be subject to disciplinary action.

Parking Zones & Enforcement

Parking is enforced Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Parking in handicap zones, fire lanes, campus police reserve spaces, grass, sidewalks, visitor or service zones, blocking dumpsters, parking in an unmarked area, parking on yellow curb, or parking in unauthorized color zones are non-appealable.  These areas are enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Citations will be issued, and vehicles will be subject to being booted and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

Employee, student and contractor parking is permitted only in the specified areas as outlined on the campus parking map and can be identified by the colored squares in the parking space and/or by the signage. Employees are only allowed to park in the areas identified by white squares.

Parking for students is permitted only in the specific permit color zone issued by the student’s housing assignment. If a student’s housing assignment changes, it is the student's responsibility to contact Transportation Services immediately to obtain their new parking permit. The old parking permit must be turned in to Transportation Services at the time the new parking permit is picked up.

Vehicles must be parked in a legal valid space between white lines. Parking on cross-hatched areas or any other unmarked area is prohibited, and citations will be issued.

Open Parking

There are NO Open Parking / free parking zones on campus.   Student vehicles must remain in their assigned color zones Monday through Friday 7 am – 4:30 pm to prevent receiving citations.

Summer Term

Parking is enforced throughout the year in all employee lots for faculty/staff issued permits only.  During Summer Term, students may park in any student lot, but are not allowed to park in employee lots.

Parking rules will continue to be enforced in the event classes are cancelled due to inclement weather, study times, finals or other events.

Citations will be issued for vehicles with unapproved temporary parking passes. Vehicles will be subject to immobilization and/or towing at owner's expense.

Visitor spaces are reserved for individuals visiting the university. Students, employees and contractors are prohibited from parking in these areas Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.–4:30 p.m. After 4:30 p.m. and on weekends, anyone may park in these spaces, but all vehicles must be moved by 7 a.m. Monday–Friday.
