Law and technology specialist Edward C. Martin has been named director of Law School Technology at Samford University's Cumberland School of Law.
 

In the newly-created post, Martin will monitor the technology needs of the law school, encourage faculty use of technology, teach and develop online courses for students, and oversee maintenance of the law school Web site. He will also continue classroom teaching at Cumberland.
 

Martin has been a member of the Cumberland faculty since 1983. In addition to law and technology, his research and teaching specialties include torts, products liability, professional responsibility and damages.
 

According to Cumberland Dean John L. Carroll, technology is becoming increasingly important in law teaching and law practice. "We are fortunate to have someone with Professor Martin's knowledge and skills leading our law school in this important area," Carroll said.
 

Cumberland currently offers two courses that are taught completely online, and six Web-enhanced courses in which a large portion of the course content is taught online. Martin is a graduate of the University of Tennessee law school, where he was research editor and assistant editor of the Tennessee Law Review.
