Fifty of Samford University's top undergraduate and graduate student leaders have been invited to meet with Attorney General Bill Pryor in a Mentor Alabama campus visit Tuesday, February 27. The orientation session will be at 6 p.m. in the Flag Colonnade Room of Beeson University Center.
The Mentor Alabama program is an initiative of the Office of Attorney General. Its goal is to recruit 2,002 mentors for Alabama's youth by the end of the year 2002 in an effort to prevent juvenile crime, youth violence and gang involvement.
Participants in the program will be paired with community-based mentoring organizations. Samford students were selected for the program on the basis of their interest and involvement in mentoring-related projects.
Samford is the first Birmingham area college to commit to involvement in the Mentor Alabama program.
