The Center for Science and Religion is pleased to partner with the Howard College of Arts and Sciences to bring best-selling author Dr. Stephen Post to Samford University in October. Dr. Post will deliver the annual Davis lecture in the Leslie S. Wright Center at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 9. His talk, The Power of Compassionate Love, is free and open to the public. While on campus, Dr. Post will also conduct a roundtable discussions with University Fellows, a Q&A with Psychology and premed majors, meet with Beeson Divinity faculty and students, and lead a class for pastors. Post is the author of a number of books and will hold a book signing event after the Thursday evening lecture.

Ministers from the community and surrounding area are invited for lunch with this class to follow. Content will include topics from the book Altruism & Altruistic Love, with (1) a description of science and religion related issues related to altruism, (2) an explanation of how research from the social sciences, evolutionary biology, psychology, neuroscience and religion provide the means for obtaining a deeper understanding of altruism and altruistic love, and (3) practical applications for ministers (e.g., for pulpit and personal contact). Invitations are extended to senior, associate, and assistant pastors plus other adult ministers. Attendees are encouraged to pre-read Post’s articles: Altruism, Happiness and Health and The Helper Therapy Principle.
