On Friday, April 19, Samford University hosted its 3rd annual Student Research Colloquia, held in the Davis Library. More than 90 students and student groups prepared poster presentations spanning 21 categories ranging from analytics to exercise science to social work.

Samford Pharmacy Climbs in U.S. News & World Report Rankings
Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy has moved up in the rankings and is tied for the number one ranked private school of pharmacy in the South according to new national rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. The latest ranking also shows Samford Pharmacy among the country's top 10 private pharmacy schools. Rankings are based on peer assessment surveys sent to accredited pharmacy school deans, faculty and administrators. McWhorter School of Pharmacy improved its ranking from 65th in 2020 to tie for 60th overall, placing it in the top 50% of pharmacy schools nationally.

This week, Samford's McWhorter School of Pharmacy transitioned the first students under the new Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum into Advance Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE). In 2017, Dean Michael Crouch and faculty began working to transform the curriculum to address the profession's ever-expanding role in health care and redefine the structure of each semester.

Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy’s community gathered in Reid Chapel on Friday, Jan. 12 for the 2024 State of the School Address. First held in 2015, the dean’s annual address highlights accomplishments over the past year and shares a vision for the year ahead. The school’s theme for 2024 will be administered in three doses: faith, fellowship and pharmacy.

Pharmacy Students Administer Over 6,000 Vaccines to the Community During Experiential Course
For a week in October, Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy third-year students completed their PHAR 530 Focused Patient Care Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE). Students worked in a community pharmacy, administering vaccines, counseling patients, conducting medication therapy services and interacting with preceptors. As a result, 74 students administered a total of 6,014 vaccines to members of the Birmingham community. This total equates to, on average, 81 vaccinations administered per student. The vaccines included prevention for COVID-19, influenza, pneumococcal, zoster and other diseases.

McWhorter School of Pharmacy Hosts White Coat Ceremony for Class of 2027
Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy honored first-year students in the Class of 2027 during its annual White Coat Ceremony, held Oct. 6 at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham. This year, 91 students received their white coats. “The White Coat Ceremony welcomes first-year pharmacy students to the profession, representing the first of many key steps to becoming a pharmacist,” said Michael Crouch, Dean of McWhorter School of Pharmacy.
