USP <800>: Hazardous Drugs—Handling in Healthcare Settings recently became official and dictates how healthcare workers handle hazardous drugs (HDs).1,2,3 Pharmacy technicians often handle and compound HDs. The purpose of this activity is to provide the pharmacy technicians with updates in HD handling to improve healthcare working and patient safety.
Consultant pharmacists need to continuously update themselves regarding drug-related and disease state related issues common amongst geriatric patient populations and pharmacy regulation updates. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia affecting elderly patients.1 Agitation is prevalence in a range of 30-50% in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease.2 USP General Chapter <800> Hazardous Drugs Handling in Healthcare went into effect on November 1, 2023, and affects how all healthcare workers including those in long term care facilities handle drugs. The purpose of this activity is to provide the consultant pharmacist with updates in these areas relevant to care of the geriatric patient population.
