
An alumnus of both the McWhorter School of Pharmacy and the Orlean Beeson School of Education, Dr. Hughes values the meaningful relationships he has cultivated over the years. He finds great purpose in the dynamic exchange between faculty and students, which enriches both his personal and professional life.
As Associate Provost at Samford University, Dr. Hughes is committed to fostering growth and collaboration across campus. “I am deeply passionate about supporting, connecting, and working with colleagues at every stage of their development,” he says. “Education is a two-way street—everyone on the team has something to learn and something to contribute, for the benefit of others and themselves.”
In his role within the Office of Academic Affairs, Dr. Hughes supports a wide range of strategic initiatives and offices, including:
- Academic Operations – supporting the function and operation of the Office of Academic Affairs.
- Faculty Development – supporting people and programs such as new faculty orientation, internal grants, promotion and tenure, and Leadership Samford.
- SamfordGlobal – advancing study abroad and international education opportunities to further Samford’s global influence.
- Office of Research and Sponsored Programs – promoting scholarly activity and external funding.
- Office of Faith, Learning and Vocation – integrating purpose and calling into the academic experience.
