Are there prerequisite courses to apply?
No, there are no prerequisite courses to apply for the program.
Is there a secondary application process for this program?
Yes. To declare a major in Theatre & Dance, you must apply to both Samford University and the School of the Arts. Every theatre and dance applicant is required to submit an artistic résumé and headshot and also complete an audition and interview.
Can I study abroad as part of this major?
Yes, Theatre and Dance majors can study abroad. Options exist for May term, summer, overseas performances (Edinburgh, Dominican Republic) and semester long study abroad at Samford’s Daniel House campus in London, which includes a semester long internship at a theatre in the United Kingdom.
Can I customize the program or choose concentrations/emphases?
Students have elective choices and can often add a minor or choose elective courses that focus in a particular area.
What careers do graduates of this program pursue?

Graduates from theatre & dance most often work in the performing arts as actors, singers, dancers, directors, designers, stage managers, technical directors, playwrights, cinematographers, editors, producers or arts administrators. Training in the arts can also lead to careers in a wide variety of other professions including law, business, medicine, psychology and therapy. The skills of teamwork, imagination & creativity, the ability to meet deadlines, and confidence in public speaking are applicable in any number of areas.

Is this program accredited?

Yes, all theatre programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).

Do I need a minimum GPA to enter the major?
No, a minimum GPA is not required to enter the program. Those who receive scholarships from the School of the Arts must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above.
