Continued progress on the university’s 20-year campus master plan can be seen all over campus this summer. One of the largest projects, the University Center renovation, continues to progress with new phases opening throughout the spring semester and summer, with expected completion in fall 2019. The Samford Shop, the university's bookstore, is the latest phase to reach substantial completion.

The Samford Shop reopened in June, just in time for new student and parent orientation, offering new merchandising and a convenience store section with an expanded selection of snacks and drinks. The University Center will continue to undergo renovations throughout the summer, with next phases to include a full remodel of the University Center Annex to accommodate Student Affairs and Student Life, a new skylit stairwell connecting both floors of the University Center, an upstairs student commons space for gathering and studying, as well as a full rework of Talbird Circle.

During the summer the Facilities Management team is working to refurbish, paint, and deep clean every residence hall. Further, approximately 40 additional projects are underway in a number of buildings and residence halls, including installation of new safety and security equipment, new HVAC units in West Campus residence halls, remodeling of community bathrooms  and new flooring in Vail Hall, complete remodel of 43 bathrooms in West Campus and Beeson Woods residence halls, roof repairs and replacements, new boiler system for Propst Hall, upgrades in some academic classrooms, updates to drainage and pipes, added parking in Beeson Woods, road paving, and sidewalk updates to improve campus accessibility.

Among these projects are several donor-funded initiatives. Two classrooms in Cumberland School of Law are being completely renovated, Boren Courtyard behind Buchanan Hall will be upgraded with an outdoor performance stage, and Seibert Stadium will receive a new video scoreboard.

Projects starting this summer but expected to extend into the fall include new exterior signage for campus, the refurbishment of Harrison Theatre, the creation of collaborative space for faculty and the redevelopment of the lower floor of Samford Hall.
