Samford University hosted the 31st annual meeting of the Consortium of Global Education (CGE) on its campus Sept. 12-14. The organization, which promotes international education, is comprised of more than 40 colleges and universities throughout the world.

About 100 people representing 35 member universities and three partner universities attended. International reports from members highlighted their overseas efforts by faculty and students who have projects and programs in 54 nations.

“Regardless of the academic discipline, international engagement within higher education is more important now than at any time in my memory,” said Samford President Andrew Westmoreland. “Through the work of the Consortium for Global Education, Samford students and others from universities around the world are involved in programs that add tremendous value to their prescribed courses of study.  As we seek to prepare students for meaningful lives beyond the gates of the campus, our connections with organizations such as CGE are vital.”

Westmoreland and CGE President Carolyn Bishop welcomed the attendees.

Speakers and international guests from 10 nations attended the meeting: China, Lebanon, Indonesia, India, Jordan, Egypt, France, UK, Tunisia and Albania.

The program included sessions on a variety of subjects including “Joint Degrees and Overseas Opportunities,” “Legal Issues Impacting International Programs,” “Focusing Business and Entrepreneurship Skills Overseas,” “Health Sciences and International Opportunities,” “International Recruiting and Marketing: Strategic Locations,” “Changed: How Global Experiences Have Made a Difference in My Life and the Lives of My Students,” “Research with Partners Overseas” and others.

CGE colleges and universities represent approximately 124,000 students and more than 7,000 faculty members throughout the world.
