Dr. James Earl Massey will deliver the William E. Conger, Jr. Lectures on Biblical Preaching at Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School Tuesday-through-Thursday, March 2-4.

Dr. Massey, Dean Emeritus and Distinguished Professor-at-Large of Anderson University School of Theology, will speak on “The Poetics of Preaching” each day at 11 a.m. in Hodges Chapel. His topics will be “Our Great Confession” Tuesday, “Centered Creativity” Wednesday and “Engaged Eagerness” Thursday. He will also deliver a 2:30 p.m. lecture on “Prophetic Perspective” Tuesday. The lectures are free and open to the public.

The author of 23 books, Massey has served at Anderson for more than 25 years. He also served as Dean of the Chapel and University Professor of Religion and Society at Tuskegee University from 1984 until 1990 and again during 1997-1998. His book, The Burdensome Joy of Preaching, was named 1998 Book of the Year by Preaching magazine.

The Conger Lectures honor the memory of the late Col. William E. Conger, Jr., a retired military officer who served as a close personal advisor to Beeson Divinity School founding benefactor Ralph W. Beeson.
