Mary Sue Baldwin has been named director of assessment at Samford University. The appointment was announced Jan. 8 by Samford Provost J. Bradley Creed.

In this new position, Baldwin will lead university efforts to improve student learning and other educational program outcomes. She will work with faculty, departments and the academic schools to develop and implement assessment strategies and will be involved in coordinating other programs related to accreditation and academic compliance, Creed said.

"Dr. Baldwin has served Samford capably in the past through her various faculty and administrative roles," Creed said. "She is just the right person to accept this critical new assignment as she extends her contributions to our academic endeavors."

Baldwin joined the Samford faculty in 2002 and most recently has been director of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Scholarship. She will continue to conduct selected programs through the center for the immediate future.

Baldwin earned the bachelor of science in nursing degree from the University of Michigan, the master of science in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the doctor of education degree from Samford. In addition to teaching assignments, she also has been involved in Samford's initiatives with problem-based learning.
