The Samford University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform in concert Friday, April 24. The public is invited free of charge to the 7:30 p.m. event in Brock Recital Hall.
The 40-member Symphonic Band will play Robert Russell Bennett's S.S. Eagle March from Down to the Sea in Ships, David R. Holsinger's On An American Spiritual, the John Moss arrangement of Space and Beyond, and Kenneth J. Alford's Colonel Bogey March.
The 39-member Wind Ensemble will play Alan Theisen's Allegro Capriccioso, Norman Dello Joio's Scenes from "The Louvre," Paul Hart's Cartoon and C.E. Duble's Bravura.
Theisen's piece was commissioned by Samford director of bands Dr. James Smisek and dedicated to the 2009 Samford Honor Band. The outstanding student musicians from middle and high schools in north and central Alabama premiered the work at the Honor Band concert at Samford in January.
Harpist Kaitlyn Crocker will play during intermission.
