Students from Florence, Birmingham Win Alabama Governor's School Honors Shao-Yu Chen of Florence and Elizabeth Reiser of Birmingham were named outstanding male and female students at the 2009 Alabama Governor's School, which concluded at Samford University Friday (JUNE 26).

They were chosen by AGS students, faculty and staff on the basis of participation and overall interest shown during the two-week honors program for rising high school seniors. Eighty-two students from 52 high schools in 26 counties participated.

Chen, who attends Florence High School, is the son of Chiong-Yiao Chen.

Reiser, a student at Briarwood Christian School, is the daughter of Sally and Billy Reiser.
