The U.S. Constitution was signed on Sept. 17, 1787. In commemoration of that landmark event in American history, Samford's Political Science Department and Cumberland School of Law will host a Constitution Day program Monday, Sept. 18, on the topic of Judicial Independence.
U.S. Court of Appeals judge William Pryor and Alabama Supreme Court Justice Bernard Harwood will comment on a video produced for Constitution Day. The video will feature presentations by U.S. Supreme Court associate justices Stephen G. Breyer and Anthony M. Kennedy, and retired associate justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
John Carroll, dean of Samford's Cumberland School of Law, will moderate the discussion following the showing of the video.
The eventfree of charge and open to the publicwill begin at 3 p.m. in the moot courtroom of Samford's Robinson Hall law building.
