Healthcare executive Curtis James has been named Alumnus of the Year by the Samford University School of Business.
James, president and chief executive officer, St. Vincent's Hospital and Seton Health Corporation, earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Samford in 1996. He received the alumnus award during an April 29 School of Business awards convocation.
Prior to joining St. Vincent's Hospital in 1976, James, a Certified Public Accountant, spent five years with Ernst & Young. He was named to the top post at St. Vincent's in 1998. His responsibilities include strategic leadership, operation oversight and network development activities.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
The ceremony included presentation of awards to outstanding undergraduate business students and three faculty members: Dr. Steven Jones, excellence in teaching award; Dr. Betsy Holloway, outstanding scholarship award; and Dr. Doug Smith, distinguished service award.
Acting business dean Dr. Marlene Reed also received a special citation for her service to students and faculty.
