Joanna Burkhart has undertaken various roles since joining the Daniel House team in 2015. As Associate Director of UK Programmes and Operations, Jo is now in charge of our London internship programme, sourcing placements for our students and developing relationships with organizations across the city. Jo co-teaches the internship course required of all semester students, supporting the development of professional and cultural competencies and facilitating structured reflection on students’ internship experiences.

Jo also oversees immigration compliance and manages our team of UK adjunct faculty. She supports Samford faculty in residence as they develop their courses, with a particular emphasis on fostering cultural sensitivity and meaningful engagement with London and its local communities.

Jo graduated in Geography from Oxford University, BA (Hons), MA (Oxon), and has an MA (awarded distinction) in Global Cultures from Kings College, London.

Having lived and worked in London for 20 years, Jo remains fascinated by the diversity, creativity and vibrancy of the city.  At the Daniel House, she is committed to cultivating a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages students to step beyond their comfort zones and return home with an enhanced sense of independence and self-awareness.

Prior to joining Samford, Jo worked in qualitative market research and for her church. She lives in west London with her husband, two children, and a dog called Elvis.
