External Fellowships & Scholarships
We support Samford students and recent alumni as they explore and apply for competitive national and international scholarships and fellowships.

What We Do

We meet with students to identify appropriate external opportunities, guide applicants through applications, advise on recommenders, coordinate institutional processes, and offer mock interviews. We also support applications to UK graduate programs.
We do not advise on internal Samford scholarships or financial aid.

The Application Process

Before applying, students should review the list of scholarships below to identify opportunities that match their interests and goals. Students should then schedule a meeting with Dr. McCullough early in the process. Because most fellowships require institutional review and have internal Samford deadlines, students should express interest within two weeks of the application opening and submit draft materials in Canvas six weeks before the national deadline.

“Samford professors and the entire political science department have been incredible in helping me grow in confidence and ability. Dr. McCullough was especially supportive throughout the entire process. I couldn’t have asked for a better support system.”
—Mary Parker, Fulbright Scholar
“Even applying to be a Fulbright Finalist is such a rewarding process. I've connected with people from my country of interest, which has made me even more invested in this process. It will truly change your life and give you an eye-opening experience.” —Julia Tripp, Fulbright semi-finalist
“Even though I was not selected for the Fulbright, the application helped me think through the reasons that I wanted to teach English abroad and how I could use the skills I would learn from living abroad in the accounting field, even though they are seemingly unrelated.
“Additionally, thinking through the specific questions from the Fulbright application ultimately helped me when I was applying for the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) and was given an open-ended prompt to write an essay about why I wanted to teach English in France. Because I had already spent many hours refining my career goals with the Fulbright application, I felt prepared to submit a quality application that ultimately led to my acceptance.
—Elana Galambus, Teaching Assistant Program in France
