What Makes Us Different?

Collaborative, Cross-Disciplinary Learning

Architecture and interior design students learn side by side—sharing studios, courses and projects. This integrated approach reflects how design professionals work in the real world and strengthens students’ ability to think holistically.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Students engage beyond the classroom through internships, site visits, design reviews and travel experiences at the regional, national and international levels.

Strong Industry Connections

Located in Birmingham, students benefit from connections to a vibrant design community, gaining access to internships, mentorship and professional networking opportunities.

Service and Impact-Driven Projects

Students apply their skills to real needs through community-based and mission-oriented projects—both locally and globally—demonstrating how design can serve others and create lasting impact.

Fine Arts Foundation + Advanced Technology

A first-year foundation in fine arts builds core design principles, while upper-level coursework incorporates state-of-the-art tools and technologies to bring ideas to life.

Faith-Informed Perspective

Through Samford’s mission, students explore how design can reflect deeper purpose, ethical responsibility and service to others—shaping not just spaces, but communities.

Spencer Weddle
“At the end of the day, you're able to make a difference in people's lives. I can shape space and enhance someone's life—even if it's just 1% better. If you can do that for a couple thousand people, it starts to really add up in the grand scheme of things.” —Spencer Weddle, ’26 Master of Architecture
Samantha Wilkerson
“Our cohort was small and intimate. I feel like I really got to have the one-on-one time with my professors and also get really close to my classmates. One of the points that sticks with me as a designer is that we have the profound ability to shape experience. We’re the storytellers of the built environment. We’re telling everyone’s story—past, present, and future.” —Samantha Wilkerson, ‘25 Interior Design
Aileen Soto Campero
“Samford ties faith into our curriculum. This isn't something you get from just any other school. My professor shows us how we, as servants of God, can help others in need.” —Aileen Soto Campero, Senior majoring in architecture

Prepare to Shape What’s Next

Whether designing buildings or interior environments, students in Samford’s architecture & interior design programs graduate ready to influence the future of the built environment—bringing creativity, responsibility and purpose to every project.

Technology, Materials & Supplies

Our faculty are committed to bringing students the best quality educational experiences. Due to the nature of architecture and interior design, it is necessary for students to have a personal computer which can support creative software. This technology requirement allows students to work independently and integrate digital technologies into their learning. Additional materials and supplies listed are also an integral part of the design education experience.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming part of the professional landscape in architectural and interior design practice and the broader art and design fields. At Samford, the emphasis is on developing adaptable designers and thoughtful creators. The program emphasizes systems thinking, creative reasoning, collaboration, ethics, and responsible innovation.

Students engage emerging technologies within a framework that prioritizes design intent and responsibility. AI supports aspects of rapid iteration, environmental analysis, visualization and coordination, helping students test ideas, evaluate options and communicate design concepts more effectively. Emphasis is placed on understanding how these tools work, when to use them, and how to integrate them responsibly within the design process. We view AI as a tool that can amplify human creativity and design thinking, not replace it.
