Ryan Galloway, assistant professor of communication studies and director of debate, has received the George Ziegelmueller award for debate coaching at the 67th annual National Debate Tournament (NDT) at Weber State University March 28-April 1.
The award, which honors a former Wayne State University debate coach, is presented to a faculty member who has distinguished himself or herself in the communication profession while coaching teams to competitive success at the NDT.
"I have the best job in the world,” said Galloway, who has led Samford’s team since 2005. “Every day I get to work with intelligent, motivated, hard working students who will change the world. They inspire me to work harder and deepen my commitment every day."
The American Debate Association ranks Samford’s debate team tenth in the nation overall, and fifth in the nation for its junior varsity team.
