English/Psychology double-major David Rodriguez presented his essay, “An Account of Grief, or Words Wreck,” at the student conference of The Association for Core Texts and Courses (ACTC) at Shimer College in Chicago March 8-10. Rodriguez was one of only 40 students from more than 25 institutions selected to participate in the conference. “It was a great launching point into the academy,” he said.

“When I nominated David for participation in the conference, I knew his outstanding writing and professionalism would represent Samford well,” said English professor Julie Steward. He did, indeed, and his paper is now in competition for publication.

The Association for Core Texts and Courses is an international, professional association that seeks to advance liberal education in institutions by developing and promoting successful general, liberal education programs (and other programs) which integrate core text courses with the most advanced developments in administration, curriculum, student support services, faculty support, and general education assessment and review.
