The Samford community is mourning the death of Joyce R. Wheeler, wife of Research Professor Ruric E. Wheeler, former Chair of Samford’s Math Department, Dean of Howard College of Arts and Sciences and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Samford learned of Mrs. Wheeler’s death this morning, Nov. 2, 2012.

Joyce Wheeler is remembered for her active role in many aspects of campus life, especially Samford Auxiliary (now Legacy League). She, along with Ruric Wheeler, was a member of Samford’s Founders Circle, a group of Samford supporters who donated to the university for 40 years or more. Mrs. Wheeler also is remembered through the Dr. Ruric E. and Joyce R. Wheeler Endowed Scholarship in Samford’s Math Department.

Memorial details will be published here as they become available.
