Don Bogen, award-winning author of four books of poetry, will lead off this year’s Samford Visiting Writers series Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. in Divinity North 302. Bogen spent last spring at the Seamus Heaney Poetry Centre of Queen’s University, Belfast, as Fulbright Distinguished Scholar in Creative Writing.
Winner of the Emily Dickinson Award of the Poetry Society of America, he is Nathaniel Ropes Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Cincinnati.
Other Visiting Writer programs will be:
- Nov. 7, Jane Hirshfield, author of six collections of poetry. Her collection, After, was named a Best Book of 2006 by the Washington Post,San Francisco Chronicle and London Financial Times.
- Feb. 13, Michael Kardos, author of a story collection, two books and other short stories. He co-directs the creative writing program at Mississippi State University.
