Samford Classics department is proud to acknowledge the achievement of graduate Jennifer Pharr Davis, whose autobiographical book Becoming Odyssa: Epic Adventures on the Appalachian Trail, was recently published. "Becoming Odyssa is a book that will be enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts, but it is also a story that will appeal to anyone that has ever been on a journey of faith and self-discovery,” says Davis.
It is a story of a young woman who decides to leave behind comfort and worldly possessions, and finds joy in simplicity, hard word, and nature. The book follows the transition and growth that comes with every step she takes on the trail, braving situations she never had imagined before.
"If there are any Samford students that don't know what they want to do after graduation, they should read this book,” says Davis. “I doubt they will choose to follow in my footsteps and hike the Appalachian Trail. But they will learn that God has a plan for how they will navigate this difficult, beautiful world."
