Samford University will host Cumberland School of Law alumnus and Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin '07 on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. as part of the Pi Sigma Alpha Distinguished Speaker Series. The event will take place in the Regions Room of Cooney Hall, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
The Distinguished Speaker Series brings respected public leaders to campus for thoughtful, nonpartisan conversations about politics, leadership and civic life. Designed especially for Samford students, the series provides an opportunity to hear directly from individuals who are actively shaping public policy and community life while engaging the ideas, challenges and responsibilities that accompany public leadership.
Rooted in Samford’s commitment to intellectual curiosity, respectful dialogue and the formation of informed citizens, the series encourages students to think critically about political issues from a variety of perspectives. Speakers are selected not to promote a particular viewpoint but to model ethical leadership, public service and meaningful engagement in the public square.
This year’s featured speaker, Mayor Randall Woodfin, is the newly reelected mayor of Birmingham and a nationally recognized civic leader. Through lecture and discussion, students will gain firsthand insight into the realities of political leadership and how public decisions affect communities and everyday life.
This is a free, ticketed event with seating limited to 300 attendees. A reception will follow the program.
