Nia Johnson is a Birmingham native and has been a faculty member in Samford University’s Journalism and Mass Communication Department since 2015. Prior to joining Samford, she taught at the University of Alabama as both an adjunct instructor and graduate teaching assistant in the College of Communication & Information Sciences. She has also taught at UAB, Faulkner University in Montgomery, and Alabama State University.
Johnson brings a blend of academic and professional expertise to the classroom, with teaching interests that include public relations, advertising, media writing, photojournalism and visual storytelling, and strategic communication. Her scholarly and professional interests span public relations, sports communication, health communication, crisis communication, and communication education. She is particularly passionate about helping students connect theory to practice through applied projects, client-based campaigns, and experiential learning.
Outside the classroom, Johnson enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her family. Her husband, Johnathan, is the youth minister at Deerfoot Church of Christ in Trussville, and together they have two sons.
