Kara Jolliff Gould received her BA and MA in Communication at Wheaton College (IL) and her PhD in Communication and Media at the University of Utah. Gould began her journalism at an all-news radio station in Chicago. She worked in broadcast news, print news and freelance public relations, and was co-owner of a film and video company in Salt Lake City where she wrote and produced projects. Her dissertation was an ethnographic study of communication and collaboration on the set of a popular weekly television series. Gould enjoys teaching a variety of media-related courses. One of her research interests focuses on the pedagogy of media law and freedom of expression — how is that complex but important subject being taught across the country? How should it be taught? Other research interests include media production pedagogy and issues related to copyright and artificial intelligence (AI). She is also interested in the role of AI in journalism and journalism education, and the ethics of AI use in those contexts.
