Samford University's School of Health Professions is home to four academic departments, which comprise of five undergraduate majors and three graduate degree programs.
Kinesiology is the study of human movement and its impact on health and quality of life. The Department of Kinesiology prepares students for careers in health, fitness and sports. Undergraduate degrees include Exercise Science (Pre-Physical Therapy), Health Sciences, Sport Administration, and Sports Medicine. The department also offers a Master of Science in Performance and Applied Sport Science. A fast-track option is available in the Exercise Science/Physical Therapy program, allowing students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a Doctor of Physical Therapy in less time.
The Department of Physician Assistant Studies prepares students to become skilled, compassionate physician assistants ready to serve in a variety of health care settings. The program offers a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS), combining rigorous classroom instruction, laboratory work and hands-on clinical rotations to equip students with the knowledge and practical experience necessary for certification and practice.
The Department of Physical Therapy prepares students to become skilled, compassionate physical therapists ready to improve the health and quality of life of their patients. The program offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), combining classroom instruction, laboratory work and hands-on clinical experiences. A fast-track option is available for qualified students in the Exercise Science/Physical Therapy program, allowing them to earn both a bachelor’s degree and the DPT in less time.
