Frequently Asked Questions
Are there prerequisite courses to declare the major?
Yes. Students must complete the required pre-business courses to be admitted into the Brock School of Business. These courses include ACCT 211 and 212, BUSA 200, DATA 200 and 201 and ECON 201 and 202. Students must earn a C- or better in each pre-business course. Admission into the business school is automatic once these requirements are met. Students who are still completing one or more pre-business courses or who have not yet earned the required C- may be granted provisional admission, which allows enrollment in 300-level business courses but not 400-level courses until all requirements are satisfied.
Do I need a minimum GPA to enter the major?
Yes. To be admitted into the Brock School of Business and eligible to declare the accounting major, students must earn a 2.25 or higher GPA in pre-business courses and maintain a cumulative 2.00 Samford University GPA. In addition, students must earn a 2.00 GPA in the accounting major coursework to graduate.
Can I study abroad as part of this major?
Are internships required or encouraged?
Internships are strongly encouraged for accounting and other business students and most complete internships for credit.
What academic support resources are available?
Undergraduate and graduate students have access to academic advising and Brock School of Business resources, including the Academic Success Center, the Samford Writing Center, Wall Street Journal access and faculty mentorship.
