Katie Jane Glassford, a senior entrepreneurship major is the founder of KJ Papery, a watercolor stationary brand inspired by everyday moments.

What is the story of your business? How did it start?

I've had an eye for stationery design ever since I was little! From collecting each card I have received, to the notes my mom would put in my lunch box, I've always had a passion for all things paper. Kj Papery was born from that passion, as a way to help others celebrate everyday moments through personal and intentional stationery designed by yours truly!

What has been the most challenging part of launching your business? How did you overcome this?

Since I started my business a few months ago, I think the most challenging part has been understanding all the ins and outs of owning a small business. From designing my website to ordering packaging, each moment has held a learning curve. It has been the little things that have truly shown me that no business is perfect and that understanding how you stand out in your own market takes time, and that time in and of itself is a gift to not only learn more about yourself but also to dive into doing what you truly love.

What is the goal behind your entrepreneurial pursuits? What do you envision for your business?

As of right now, I only have a few stationery options. Looking ahead to the next handful of years, I hope to expand my stationery portfolio and eventually create fully custom invitations. While I am selling in person right now and on my website shortly, I hope to one day own a storefront to sell all my stationery!

How do you see your company having an impact on the Samford and/or Birmingham communities?

The market for stationery is always evident and important. As a rising senior, I have had the pleasure of engaging myself in both the Samford and Birmingham communities for the past few years and have seen first-hand the desire and need for thoughtful stationery throughout all seasons of the year. Kj Papery is able to satisfy that need with stationery that not only elevates everyday life, but also fosters connections within and between the two communities.
