Andrew Myers, a junior accounting major, is the owner of J.A. Myers. His participation in the Samford Startup Program has provided valuable connections, enhanced his confidence, and fostered a supportive environment for growth, all while envisioning his business as a recognized brand that positively impacts the Samford and Birmingham communities.

What is the story of your company? How did it start?

I have worked for other companies that are similar, but I wanted to create my own company and be able to design and lead in the direction I envision for a company in this space. I wanted to create a line that was built to last the test time. While my business is still in its initial stages, that is what I intend to do.

Why did you want to join the Samford Startup program?

I was part of the program last year for a different business. I really enjoyed it and wanted to try something new while still being part of the program!

How has the Samford Startup program supported your business?

The Samford Startup program has helped my business by offering many connections that can support my business on and off campus. The connections piece is one of the best aspects of the program.

What has been the most challenging part of launching your business? How did you overcome this?

The hardest part so far is going all in and taking the risks. You must do it and start to be successful.

How has the Samford Startup program helped you grow professionally?

It has helped me grow in confidence with pitching or speaking about my business to others. It also has allowed me to get more hands-on experience in the business world.

Looking to the future, what do you envision for your business?

I envision it growing into a recognizable brand for many people to enjoy.

How do you see your company having an impact on the Samford and Birmingham communities?

It can impact a lot of people by hearing the story of the brand and why it was started.

Why would you encourage other student entrepreneurs to also join the program?

It is a great program that creates an environment for learning and risk taking that other opportunities would not provide.
