Olga Shapoval, PhD is an assistant professor of economics at Brock School of Business. She teaches courses in microeconomic theory, data analytics and competitive strategy.
Originally from Russia, she came to the United States in 2006 as part of a student exchange program. She earned her BA in Economics from Sonoma State University and her PhD from the University of Nevada, Reno.
Her research focuses on policy evaluation in health and education, particularly on the effects of mandatory programs on clinical outcomes. She has also contributed to research on artificial intelligence, including work highlighting the risks of hallucinations and the dangers of overreliance on AI-generated content, as well as the importance of careful verification in academic and professional settings.
Outside of work, Olga enjoys traveling and spending time discussing Russian classical literature with her husband. She is a mother of two boys and a little girl and shares life with Twix, her cheerful three-legged dog.
