This fall, Samford University’s Center for Worship and the Arts (CWA) is launching an Online Certificate in Worship Administration. The new certificate grew out of the popular and widely used Online Certificate in Worship Leadership. The online program is a partnership between the CWA and Samford’s Ministry Training Institute which are both part of the School of the Arts and provide resources to the ministry community.

“Excellent worship leadership—in fact, excellent leadership in general—requires a honed administrative skillset. The best worship leaders, pastors and directors know how to effectively structure their resources, organize their teams and tune their technological tools to best serve their congregations and mission,” associate director Wen Reagan said. “This new certificate provides students the opportunity to build their administrative skillset, expanding their worship leadership craft to better serve God’s people in worship."

Worship leaders, pastors, lay leaders and others of a variety of denominations from all across the country have benefited from the training provided through the online certificate in worship leadership. The new certificate in worship administration will allow individuals to dig deeper into the behind-the-scenes elements of worship. Taught by Samford faculty and other prominent leaders in the worship leadership industry, courses share insights in administrative practices, basic technology, music theory and preparing to lead worship through rehearsal.

The new certificate program includes four eight-week courses, which can be pursued collectively or one course at a time. Registration is now open for both certificates.

Now in its eighth year, the Center for Worship and the Arts continues to equip congregations to engage in intergenerational and artistic worship practices. This summer the CWA adapted their successful worship leadership training Animate into a virtual event, Animate Flex, allowing an extended reach of students and their mentors. Additionally, the center developed QuaranTeen resources to meet the unique needs of teenagers during the COVID-19 pandemic: Compline: Evening Liturgies for Anxious Souls, Praying the Headlines and several relevant blog posts.
