William G. Ross, the Albert P. Brewer Professor of Law and Ethics at Samford University's Cumberland School of Law, was honored with the Thomas W. Woolley Scholarly Achievement Award during the university's 185th Opening Convocation on Aug. 25.

The annual award recognizes a Samford faculty member who exemplifies the highest level of scholarly achievement and dedication, honoring Woolley's remarkable career and significant contributions to the university and the broader academic community.

"I am honored to receive the award, and I am grateful that Samford provides an environment that encourages and nurtures research, writing and publication," Ross said.

Over a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years, Ross has authored seven books and numerous scholarly articles exploring constitutional law, legal history and ethics. His work has been cited thousands of times in the nation's most respected publications, demonstrating the reach and rigor envisioned in Samford's aspiration to be known and acknowledged worldwide.

"At a time when public understanding of constitutional history and judicial ethics is critically needed, his work reflects Samford's call to social and civic responsibility," said Dave Cimbora, Samford's provost and vice president for academic affairs. "His scholarship does what Samford's mission calls us to build: bridges between the academy and society."

The award recognizes not only Ross' extensive body of scholarship, but also the lasting influence his work continues to have on legal education, public discourse and the broader academic community.
