Samford University Cumberland School of Law has received a $1 million gift from alumnus Deno P. Dikeou, JD ’68, to establish the Deno P. Dikeou Endowed Fellowship for Excellence in Real Estate Law, Free Market Economy vs. Socialist Planned Economy and Entrepreneurship within Cumberland’s Land Use & Natural Resources Law (LUNR) Center.
The endowed fellowship will provide financial support for law students who demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing careers in real estate and property law, specifically focusing on how the free market can advance responsible growth of housing, retail and industrial development.
“This generous gift reflects the impact Cumberland School of Law has had on generations of graduates and the meaningful ways our alumni continue to invest in the future of the legal profession,” Dean Blake Hudson said. “The Deno P. Dikeou Endowed Fellowship will not only support talented students with an interest in real estate law but also strengthen one of our key academic centers and expand opportunities for learning, research and dialogue.”
Since graduating from Cumberland in 1968, Dikeou has built a distinguished and successful career in real estate law. He is the founder of Dikeou Real Estate Group, a prominent real estate agency, management and development business based in Maitland, Florida. Throughout his career, Dikeou has been recognized for his entrepreneurial leadership and extensive work in the real estate industry.
The Land Use & Natural Resources Law Center plays a central role in Cumberland’s academic offerings related to property and natural resources law. Through coursework, programming and scholarly initiatives, the center equips students to navigate complex legal and regulatory issues affecting land development and resource management. The establishment of the Dikeou Endowed Fellowship further enhances the center’s ability to prepare students for legal practice in these dynamic fields.
Second-year law student Cameron Givianpour has been named the inaugural Dikeou Real Estate Fellow. “We are grateful for Mr. Dikeou’s generous donation that will benefit the future of Cumberland’s real estate and property law education,” Givianpour said. “Cumberland is fortunate to have alumni who are passionate about expanding educational opportunities for the next generation of students. Mr. Dikeou’s gift is a testament to the strength of Cumberland’s community and its commitment to enhancing academic programs for years to come.”
In addition to student support, the endowment may also help fund a future speaker series focused on real estate law, land use and economic systems, further enriching opportunities for scholarly dialogue and professional engagement at the law school.
By supporting both students and programming, the Deno P. Dikeou Endowed Fellowship represents a lasting investment in legal education and reaffirms Cumberland School of Law’s commitment to academic excellence, experiential learning and strong engagement with the legal profession.
